Donna's Knit Kit - Week 5

This Monday Donna would like to show you a reversible moebius.

This moebius has a twist to it - it's actually twisted. When Donna sewed it together - the pattern called for her to twist it once before sewing.

This is called a faux cable pattern, which means you do a cable stitch without using a cable needle.

The yarn used for this moebius is from Montana and is called Mountain Colors Monarch - it's 100% Merino.  The letter that came with the kits said the colors are inspired by the stunning mountains, river and woodlands of Montana.

Knit Duster Cover

While at the Swissvale Farmers Market last Saturday, one of our neighbors who happens to be in the booth next to us shared an idea. She said that she saw a knit duster cover and thought this might be a good item for us to make.

Loving that someone cared enough to make a suggestion - I came home and looked up the pattern.
Here's the result.

This actually turned out pretty well and was easy to make. I used Lily Sugar' n Cream Stripes yarn. It fit my dust broom pretty well. The nice thing about the cotton duster cover - it's easy to wash as it is cotton. This way you don't have to keep buying refills.

I haven't actually used it to see how well it works. I thought I would give that honor to Tianna. She can report back to me on how well it did and I will report back with the results in a future blog.

Donna's Knit Kits - Week 4

It's Monday ... that means Donna gets to impress us with one of her knit kits.

Today we have a lovely Infinity Scarf or as some call it a cowl.

This scarf is made using Mountain Colors most luxurious yarn, Merino Ribbon.
The color is called Harmony Cottonwood.
This pretty pattern shows off the drape and delicate color changes of the Merino Ribbon.
This is a very light - weight scarf that can be worn even in summer on a cool evening.

Another Happy Customer

Today we have a very special happy customer story.
After posting these flower wreaths on Facebook, my childhood friend Debbie contacted me to purchase one of these wreaths that Donna and I made.

She said that she wanted one of the daisy wreaths ... in fact it is the one clear at the end of this picture.
After I mailed it to her she said that she was giving it to her mom, Vivian.
I was thrilled since Vivian was like a second mother to me since Debbie and I spent a lot of time together as children.

Here's Vivian with her wreath.

Enjoy the wreath Vivian!

You too can enjoy one of these wreaths as it will be one of the items of the week at the Swissvale Farmers Market this Saturday. Stay tuned to tomorrows blog when I will unveil the second item of the week.

Donna's Knit Kits - Week 3

It's Monday and that means we are going to showcase another one of Donna's Knit Kits.

This weeks show-and-tell is a sampler scarf made of eight different types of yarn.

Donna made this by using a long circular needle and casted on a large amount of stitches. In this case you do not join the yarn in the round .. you work it back and forth.
Every couples rows she would change yarn making this a nice sampler scarf where you can try  different types of yarn to see if you like it.

Stay tuned for a very special "Happy Customer" blog on Wednesday!

Donna's Knit Kits - Week 2

Every Monday I am featuring something that Donna made from her online knitting club through Paradise Fibers.

This week we have a hat and fingerless glove set.

The pattern that came with the yarn was suppose to be slippers.
Donna didn't like the pattern so she did her own thing. She had a hard time picking out this pattern and waited the night before it was due to be online.

I have to say that she did a great job! It was like that yarn was made for this project.

Upcycled Project

A while back a neighbor was remodeling his house and replacing his doors. I looked out my door and saw all the doors with glass door knobs laying in the lawn. I couldn't believe that he would throw them out so I asked him if I could have the knobs - one day he came to the door with them.

The knobs sat in my basement for quite some time. I knew that I wanted to put them on a board so I could hang things, but I wasn't sure how to accomplish that. I came across Becky from Charis Notes and Gifts on Facebook and asked if she would help me with this project. I gave her the knobs - she had a cabinet door that was painted. She asked me if I wanted the sign to say anything - I immediately thought this may be nice piece for the knitting studio - so I asked her to paint Knit & Purl on it.

I found a great pattern to make hanging bags. Here is the sign that hangs in our knitting studio. The bags hold buttons that I frequently use - so it is a functional piece.

Thank you Becky for making this wonderful work of art for us!

Summer Flower Wreaths

Crocheted flowers seem to be pretty popular in the fashion and design world. You see flowers on hats, headbands, pillows, afghans and many other items. Another popular fabric this summer is burlap.

Donna and I have put both burlap and crocheted flowers together to make some very pretty summer wreaths.

Take a look at the daisy wreath I have on my front door.

Here's how we made the wreaths.
First you wrap the burlap around the straw wreath and fasten it with a staple gun.

Here is the wreath all wrapped up and ready for the flowers.

Here is a sample of some of the wreaths we have created.

These wreaths will be an item of the week later on this month at the Swissvale Farmers Market that takes place every Saturday from June through October from 9a - 1p.

Every Thursday I will announce the items of the week on our blog and on our Facebook page.
Stay tuned Thursday, June 4 for the item of the week for this Saturdays farmers market.

Donna's Kit Corner

Every Monday - until we run out of kits - Donna is going to showcase some of the kits she has made through an online club she belongs to through Paradise Fibers.

Sometimes Donna doesn't like the suggested pattern the group is making so she will use the yarn for something else. That is the case with the first item we are going to highlight.

We have been searching for a pattern for Yoga/Spa Socks for quite some time and we didn't seem to like any of the patterns. So, Donna took parts of a couple patterns and came up with her own design.

As  you can see, the project turned out well.
My nail polish even matched the yarn - what a bonus!
