Camo Neck Warmers

A few weeks ago Donna and I were at a craft show when a gentleman came up to us and made a comment about this neck warmer.

He said that hunters or guys who work out in the elements would like this if we made this in more masculine colors. I sort of put this on the back burner until I found Camo yarn.

Who knew there was camo for women as well. I certainly didn't. There was a story on the news this week that said the number of women going out into the woods to hunt is growing.

Thanks to Red Heart Camo yarn I was able to make neck warmers for both men and women.

Upcycled Christmas Ornaments

You can't go to a holiday craft show without some Christmas decorations.

We've upcycled some ornaments for the occasion. I'm sure you have heard the term upcycling before. In case you haven't, upcycling is the process of converting waste materials or useless products into new materials or products of better quality or for better environmental value - so says Wikipedia.

Well Donna and I have upcycled some items we had around the house into holiday ornaments for the tree.

Here you have the burned out light bulb. We added a hat and beard ... painted him up a bit ... and you have a Santa ornament.

This picture shows a terra cotta pot turned upside down - we painted it to look like Santa  and added a bell inside. The other Santa ornament is made from a spoon that we bought at a thrift store. The hat is made using scrap yarn left over from another holiday project.

We will have all these ornaments with us tomorrow at the Penn Hills Linton Middle School Craft Show - 250 Aster Street, Penn Hills, PA 15235. The show runs from 8a - 4p. We will be on Candy Cane Lane.

Stuffed Animal Frenzy

This year Donna decided she wanted to try making some small stuffed animals so the kids would have something to buy at the craft shows we participate in. Well not only did the kids buy the animals - so did many adults.

Here is a sample of what we are currently selling.

In this basket you will find Pigs, Penguins and a huge rattle snake. Yes, the snake does have a rattle in its tail.

Owls seem to be very popular again this year. We had towels with owls as well as several different stuffed owls. Pictured here are Camo Owl and Ozzy the Owl.

We will have these animals at the Penn Hills Linton Middle School Craft Show this Saturday.

Perfect Hat Weather

From what the weather forecasters are predicting – it looks as though it's going to be pretty chilly this weekend. It sounds like perfect hat weather. Many of the hats shown in this blog will be available to purchase at the Penn Hills Linton Middle School on Saturday. 

Our number one selling hat is the button hat.

This hat is made using super bulky yarn called Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick.

The brim of this hat is great for keeping your ears warm. The button on the hat also makes a statement. Some of the buttons are vintage and some are not.

Another hat we have sold many of through the years is the Cable Hat.

This hat is made with the same yarn as the button hat. What makes this hat great is the cable. It makes for a nice snug fit on anyone.

Since it's going to be cold we are going to have a basket of $10 hats. There is something for everyone in this basket.

We just found out today that we are going to be on Candy Cane Lane again this year at the Penn Hills Linton Middle School Craft Fair on Saturday. We hope to see you there!

Decorating with Kitchen Towels

A few years back some of our customers kept asking us to make the hanging kitchen towels. Donna and I figured it out and now we have another fan favorite.

These towels seem to have a vintage feel as it reminds people of their relatives and friends who use to make these in the past. It is also a super easy way to decorate your kitchen.

Donna and I have perfected these towels by using cotton yarn at the top. Cotton keeps its shape a lot better than its acrylic counterpart.  We also try to use the best quality towels we can buy.

One favorite themed towel is the pet towels.

When it isn’t a holiday we try to have everyday towels.

Of course we have the seasonal towels.

Next year I am trying to come up with a different towel topper. I would like to share it but I can’t find the pattern yet. I will have all winter to figure it out.  If you are a fan of these towels you will definitely want to stay tuned.
