TV Inspired Wrap?

Back on November 12 I did a blog about a wrap that my sister made in less than a day.
I posted it on Facebook and a friend asked me to make her two of the wraps.

Apparently this wrap and a whole line of knit wear has been inspired by the Starz TV Series Outlander. When I found this out Donna and I had to watch this series. So we found it on OnDemand and are in the middle of watching it.

Mary Maxim, the company where I bought the yarn to make the wraps has been promoting the knit wear in the series by selling patterns and kits that looks like what the main character has been wearing. Of course I ordered 3 of the 5 kits. I will do a later blog on that when I finish the projects.

Here are the wraps I made for my friend.

Keep an eye for other projects that Donna and I will be working on this holiday weekend.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Cobbles Cowl

Today's finished project was made by Pam using Patons Cobbles Yarn.
I saw this yarn at Michaels and wanted to try making something with it.
While working on this project the yarn reminded me of working with  roving wool.
The make up of this yarn is 49% Wool, 49% Acrylic and 2% Polyester

This would be a very warm cowl to wear along with a coat.
I walk in Downtown Pittsburgh to work so I am thinking it would be warm when the wind whips around those buildings.

Donna's Latest Project

I am enjoying a week off from my full time job this week.
So I thought I would attempt to blog everyday showing finished projects that either Donna or I have completed.

The first blog is a completed project that Donna completed.
This is called the Fresh Till Cowl by Rebecca Fox from Yarniverse Staff's Ravelry Store.

Donna chose this pattern because she got sock yarn again from one of her online knitting clubs.
As you may remember from a previous blog neither one of us enjoys making socks.

Keep an eye out for another project tomorrow!

One Day Cowl

On Monday Donna received her monthly knit kit from Mary Maxim.
The next day was the Veterans Day Holiday and she was lucky enough to have the day off.
Here is how she spent part of her day - making the Highland Cowl.

She used size 35 needles and Mary Maxim Titan - a bulky yarn and Woodland Yarn.

If this cowl doesn't keep you warm I don't think anything will.

Anatomy of a Sweater

Recently we had a request to make a baby sweater.
The customer bought the yarn and it was up to us to find a pattern.
We found a nice pattern from an insert in one of the British knitting magazines we like to get.

Here is the actual sweater in the book.

Now let me take you through the process of actually making this sweater.

Here the sweater is on circular needles.
Since there were a lot of stitches we felt a circular needle would work better than straight needles.

Here is a close up of the lace pattern.
I do have to tell you that you really had to pay attention to what you were doing on the pattern rows.
I had to rip rows out a few times.

Now we are starting to see the foundation of a sweater with no sleeves.

Here are the sleeves.

When you sew all the parts together here is what you have.

The customer also requested a hat and booties to match.

I certainly hope this will keep the baby warm this winter.
