Boot Cuffs

Well it has finally happened - Donna has run out of knit kits.
Her knit kit column will now be featured once a month.
The good news is we have saved the best for last.

This project is Fair Isle Boot Toppers.

According to Wikipedia, Fair Isle is a traditional knitting technique used to create patterns with multiple colors. It's named after Fair Isle, a tiny island in Northern Scotland that forms part of the Shetland Islands.

Fair Isle knitting is defined as knitting with many colors, but never using more than two in any one row. Most patterns are made up of small motifs that are repeated across the piece.
Knitters today use a myriad of colors in their Fair Isle patterns. The term now refers to any color knitting where color changes are frequent, requiring the yarns to be carried across the wrong side of the work.

Here's another picture of the boot cuffs outside of the boots. You can see the ribbing at the bottom help keep the cuffs in place.

If you are a believer in the Farmers Almanac - it sounds like we will need boot cuffs to keep us warm this winter.

Baby Hats

Yesterday we showcased the baby blanket ... today the baby hats.
You will be able to purchase these hats at the Swissvale Farmers Market this Saturday - this week is baby week at the market.

First up a super colorful hat.

Next up very cute flower sun hats.

We have patterns in every size from preemie to toddlers.

This fall Donna and I would like to make fun holiday hats for kids. If we do that we will definitely post them on our blog and Facebook page.

It's Baby Week

It's going to be Baby Week at the Swissvale Farmers Market this Saturday.

Donna and I have noticed that there are a lot of young mothers in Swissvale and thought this would be a good time to show that we can make baby items.

The first item is a blue and white baby blanket.

The blanket didn't photograph as well as we would have liked.
Here's a close up of the blanket. Here you can see that it is blue and white.

We do take custom orders for baby items and well as other things.
We find that most people like to order baby blankets and clothing in certain colors.

Tomorrow we will show you some cute baby hats.

Donna's Knit Kits - Week 11

Last week we took a week off from Donna's Knit Kits.
We are back at it this week!

Here is a lovely cable hat that Donna made.

When you look at this hat it seems normal, but when it's not on the head it is rather small.
So, this hat has a lot of stretch to it.

This was made using Mountain Colors Hand-Painted River Twist Yarn.
The color of this yarn is called Rock Creek.

Keep watching this week we will be showcasing several baby items that you will be able to purchase at the Swissvale Farmers Market this Saturday.

Donna's Knit Kits - Week 10

Donna has made it to 10 weeks on her knit kit projects.

In this edition we have the Drizzle Hat.

This is what they call a slouch hat. It is made using Mountain Colors River Wash Sport Yarn. It is 100% Superwash Merino Wool.
The color used is called Prairie Rose.

Donna must have liked this project as she is way ahead on her deadline to have it posted to get her discount.
It is only Aug 4 and it isn't due until Aug 20.

Way to go!
